Trekking Quebrada Quilqueyhuanca: A great short hike in a beautiful valley, far from other tourist routes. This tour is ideal for acclimatization for the next climb and is also appropriate for families or for those who are looking for an easy trip involving an excursion or camping, but who still want to experience the magnificent mountain landscapes of northern Peru. A special feature of this trek is the glacier-fed lakes.
Toward the end of the valley are three lakes: Cayesh (4,500m), Tullpacocha (4,300 m), and Cuchilla (4,625m). These last two lakes are found at the foot of a great cirque of peaks that form the Chinchey Peak group (6,309m), to the southwest of this is Pucaranra Peak (6,156m), while toward the southeast areTuhhparaju (5,787 m) and Chopiraju (5,518 m)
Found nestled in the interior of the Quicayhuanca valley is a large gorge, about 13 km long, that ends in a cirque of peaks over 6000m. The trail goes through pastures where cows, horses and burros abound; as well as a large number of archeological remains, which add to the allure of the route. It’s possible to see diverse wildlife, from small birds to curious foxes.
Quebrada Ishinca: Climb to Ishinca Peak, trekking journey in the Ishinca Valley. This is popular for climbers who want to bag a 5000 or 6000 meter peak, but because of the scenic beauty, this is a great climb even if you don’t reach the peak. In this hike, we have a riveting view of the massif that includes Ishinca, Urus, Tocllaraju, Ranrapalca, the Palcarajus and much more.

Detailed Program
Day 1: Flight from Europe to Lima. Overnight in the hotel
Arrival in Lima - a large city with a population of approximately 11 million - the largest city in South America. Rest. If you wish, explore the city on your own. Overnight Hotel (-/-/-)
Day 2: Travel by bus to Huaraz (3100m). The trip is 400km and takes 8 hours
This will be a varied and interesting voyage First we go to the Pan American highway toward the north, across the impressive Pacific coastal desert. We continue toward the high terrain and at Conococha Pass (4020 m) we pass through the Cordillera Negra into the Santa Valley to Huaraz (3100m.) Once we cross the pass, you’ll see the charming view of the mountains of the Cordillera Blanca, without a doubt some of the most impressive scenery in the world. You can also fly via LCPERU - flight duration 50 minutes.
Overnight Hotel (B/-/-)
Day 3: Huaraz - Trekking to Laguna Wilcacoha (3725 m)
For acclimatization we visit the Cordillera Negra, where you can see a magnificent view of the Cordillera Blanca. We’ll have a chance to see wild ducks on the beautiful lake. Wilcacocha, because of its location, is an exceptional viewpoint for the Cordillera Blanca, allowing us to identify peaks (from north to south) Huandoy, Huascarán, Chopicalqui, Hualcan, Copa,Vallunaraju, Ocshapalca, Ranrapalca, Palcaraju, Churup, and many more.
Overnight Hotel (B/L/-)
Day 4: Huaraz - Trekking to Laguna Churup (4200 m) - Camp at Pitec (3850 m)
Today we head for the small village of Llupa. From here, our trail follows the Inca Trail toward Laguna Churup. The first view is of hills and fields, before we get to the higher peaks. The trail narrows and steepens, but also becomes more interesting, including a small climb that has fixed ropes. The trail to Laguna Churup is one of the classic hikes of the Cordillera Blanca and one of the most beautiful places in this varied mountain region. Churup Peak rises above the lake, a wild rocky mountain with glaciers and cliffs 5400 meters above sea level. Here we can continue climbing in order to do a circular route that will bring us to the summit trail. Then it’s time to return to Pitec, a small village of typical huts, where we set up our tents for the night.
Overnight Camp (B/L/-)
Day 5: Pitec - Trekking to Quebrada Quilcayhuanca - Close to Laguna Tullpacocha (4350 m)
From Pitec we begin the hike to our next destination, the Quilcayhuanca Valley. The route winds through the gorge alongside glaciated peaks. Here we also find archaeological remains called Nuevo Tambo. The valley is surrounded by peaks, like the majestic Nevado Adavita (5,518 m), the Nevada Tullparaju (5,787 m), Chinchey (6,222 m) and many more. The Cayeshpampa camp (4,100 m) is not easy to find among the rocks, so we can also camp near the lake. In the afternoon we’ll climb to Laguna Tullpacocha, in which icebergs from the glacier still float.
Overnight Camp (B/L/D)
Day 6: Laguna Tullpacocha - Trekking to Cayashpampa - Huapi Pass (5020 m) - Cojup (4150 m)
Today we set off on an uphill trail, getting to Cuchillacocha Lake (4,625 m) at the foot of the snowcapped peaks of Pucaranra (6,156 m) and Chinchey (6,222 m). From here we’ll continue climbing to Huapi Pass (5,020 m), approximately 5 hours to arrive at the highest point of the circuit. We then descend toward Cojup Gorge to set up camp in this beautiful canyon. Later we’ll take a short hike to Palcacocha Lake (4,350 m) and return to enjoy the site of the peaks at sunset.
OvernightCamp (B/L/D)
Day 7: Quebrada Cojub - Trekking to Laguna Pelorcocha (4800 m)
We leave from camp and hike along a marked trail, reaching Little Pelorcocha Lake We set up camp on the shore next to the outlet, where the view of the Palcarajus peaks is quite beautiful.
Overnight Camp (B/L/D)
Day 8: Laguna Pelorcocha - Climbing to Ranrapalca Hill (5000 m) Optional Climb Ishinca Peak (5530 m) - Ishinca Base Camp (4200 m)
Today we follow the edge of the moraine to the saddle between Ranrapalca and Ishinca. At this point we put on crampons and safety equipment and climb the snowy hill to the summit of Ishinca (5,530 m), where we can appreciate the scenic beauty of both sides: below the southeast face of Ranrapalcan, we see Pelorcocha Lake (4,950 m) which stands out among lakes of the area for its size and turquoise color. To the south, Huantsan, although far away, rivals in majesty with the closer eastern peaks of Pucaranra (6,147 m). We descend some 175 meters to Ishinca Base Camp, where we can survey the peaks of Urus (5,495 m), Tocllaraju and the Palcarajus.
Overnight Camp (B/L/D)
Day 9: Ishinca Base Camp - Trekking downhill to Lake Cochapampa (3400 m) the village of Pashpa - Transfer to Huaraz
After breakfast we leave at 8am for an easy return walk to Pashpa. Today burros will be carrying our camping and personal equipment. We’ll return via a hillside covered with queñuales trees (Polylepis spp.), native to the high Andes. Here our private transport will be waiting.
